Description

This lesson is designed to help middle school students internalize key background information about the COVID-19 pandemic, including how it started, how and why it has spread, and the current and potential impacts. Students will explore social impacts as well as impacts on public health, the economy, and the environment. The lesson will culminate with students being able to explain this understanding using specific evidence obtained and discussed in class.

LESSON AGENDA

  1. Engage (7 minutes): Students develop questions they seek to understand in the unit

  2. Explore (22 minutes): Students review different impacts of COVID-19 in a jigsaw activity

  3. Explain (5 minutes): Class discussion of key points

  4. Elaborate (4 minutes): Students independently determine what is most concerning to them
