This course offers teachers and students a set of resources to support deep understanding of the science behind COVID-19, the vaccine and how it works, the societal and long-term impacts, and an opportunity to lead related community action. It is our hope that you will interact with these resources, add new items you find to supplement them, and engage in deep discussion with your students on the most impactful public health crisis in recent history.
THIS CURRICULUM GUIDE CONTAINS
Curricular Sequence Overview: This section is an overview of the objectives and key questions covered throughout the unit as well as links to individual lesson plans. There are some differences between the middle and high school versions of the lessons but the objectives and questions are almost the same. The recommendation is to execute lessons in order as intended unless otherwise noted.
Lesson Design: This is a link to the lesson plan template for the curriculum. All lessons follow the same format and resources are organized in the same user friendly way. The lessons associated with the community action project are oriented slightly differently and far more open-ended with suggestions for teacher support. Teachers can feel free to adapt these to your own format and preferences.

End of Course Assessment Alignment: This curriculum is aligned to end of course or end of year assessments in many iterations. In some cases this is indicated directly in individual lesson plans, but this section offers some overall alignment ideas.
Assessments and Grading: The culmination of the unit involves a choice point for teachers where the three day concluding lesson set either prepares students for an action project or an argument writing piece targeted at stopping the spread of COVID-19 or addressing vaccine hesitancy in their community.
